- Warning
- Taking 5,000 IU or more of vitamin A a day can cause birth defects. Women in the first 3 months of pregnancy, or who may be pregnant, should not take it.
- Full approved wording
- This medicine is used to supply vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, D and E during growth, when strength is low during or after illness, with physical fatigue, during pregnancy and breastfeeding and in old age; and to relieve dry eyes and to help prevent night blindness, poor bone and tooth development, and rickets.
- How to use
- Children aged 8 and over take 2 tablets twice a day; children from 36 months to under 8 years take 1 tablet twice a day. Let the tablet dissolve in the mouth or chew it.
- Before you use it
- Do not take this medicine if you are hypersensitive to it, if you have hypercalcaemia (too much calcium in the blood), sarcoidosis (an inflammatory disease of unknown cause affecting the whole body), kidney disease, kidney stones, severe kidney failure, or a hereditary condition such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption, or if the patient is an infant under 12 months. Before taking it, consult a doctor or pharmacist if the patient is an infant under 1 year, or a child who gets plenty of sunlight and eats normally; or if you have hyperoxaluria (too much oxalate in the urine), are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding, were born prematurely, are an infant, have heart or circulatory problems or low blood protein, are taking cardiac glycosides, have or have had gout or kidney stones, are prone to blood clots, or are low in folic acid. Follow the stated directions and dosage. Children should take it under the supervision of a guardian. It can interfere with the detection of glucose in urine tests and can turn urine yellow, affecting laboratory results. If symptoms do not improve after about a month, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
- Do not use with
- Do not take it together with phosphates, calcium salts, oral tetracyclines, antacids or levodopa. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking it with oral contraceptives containing oestrogen, cardiac glycosides, anti-aldosterone agents or triamterene. Avoid tea containing tannin, such as green tea and black tea, while taking it and just before or after.
- Possible side effects
- If nausea, vomiting, itching, dry rough skin, painful joint swelling, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, constipation, rash, redness, loose stools, low blood pressure, facial flushing, irregular heartbeat, skin rash, red patches, cardiac arrest, reduced central nervous system function, or periods that come earlier, become heavier or bleed for longer occurs, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
- Storage
- Store at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
