Full approved wording
This medicine is used for acne vulgaris (common acne).
How to use
Before applying, wash the affected area with clean water or a mild cleanser and let it dry. Unless a doctor or pharmacist directs otherwise, apply generously to the affected area twice a day (morning and evening) and rub it in well. The length of treatment varies by person and by how severe the acne is, but a clear effect generally appears after about 4 weeks; for the best result, use it regularly for several months. If skin irritation is severe, reduce it to once a day until the irritation subsides, or consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Before you use it
Do not use this medicine if you are hypersensitive to it. Before using it, consult a doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if the patient is a child under 12, or if you are or have been hypersensitive to propylene glycol. Use it without skipping days during the course of treatment. Do not use occlusive dressings or wraps. For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth and other mucous membranes; if it gets in the eyes, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Always wash your hands with water after applying it.
Possible side effects
Stop using it immediately and consult a doctor or pharmacist if any of the following occur: sensitivity or severe irritation; very commonly burning, itching or redness at the site; commonly peeling, pain, dryness, discolouration or irritation at the site; uncommonly oiliness, acne, loss of skin colour, altered sensation at the site, dermatitis, discomfort or swelling; rarely small pale patches, excess hair growth, redness (a sign of keratosis pilaris), cheilitis or worsening of recurrent cold sores, drug hypersensitivity, small blisters at the site, eczema, fever or ulceration; and, at unknown frequency, angioedema, contact dermatitis, swelling of the eyes, facial swelling (which can accompany a hypersensitivity reaction), rash, hives, or worsening of asthma. Redness, scaling, itching, burning and lightening of the skin (an abnormal change in skin colour in people with darker skin) may occur.
