Warning

If you regularly drink three or more alcoholic drinks a day, consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this or any other painkiller or fever reducer. It can cause bleeding in the stomach. This medicine increases the risk of serious and potentially fatal cardiovascular clotting events, heart attack and stroke, and can cause serious gastrointestinal problems such as bleeding, ulcers and perforation. People with uncontrolled high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral artery disease or cerebrovascular disease should avoid high doses of ibuprofen (2,400 mg a day). If you have cardiovascular risk factors (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking and the like) and need a high dose of ibuprofen (2,400 mg a day), consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

Used for fever and pain caused by a cold, lower back pain, period pain, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), pain after surgery, headache, migraine, toothache, muscle pain, neuralgia, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout, psoriatic arthritis, soft tissue injury (sprains and bruises), and non-articular rheumatic disease (tendinitis, tenosynovitis and bursitis).

How to use

For rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, soft tissue injury, non-articular rheumatic disease, acute gout and psoriatic arthritis, adults take one to three capsules (200–600 mg) at a time, three to four times a day, up to a maximum of 16 capsules (3,200 mg) a day. For juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, take 30–40 mg per kg of body weight a day in three to four divided doses. For mild to moderate pain or a cold, adults take one to two capsules (200–400 mg) at a time, three to four times a day. For migraine, adults take one to two capsules (200–400 mg) at a time, not exceeding two capsules in 24 hours. Young people aged 12 and over take one to two capsules (200–400 mg) at a time, three to four times a day. If you weigh less than 30 kg, the daily dose must not exceed 500 mg, and it is best not to take it on an empty stomach.

Before you use it

Do not take this medicine if you are hypersensitive to it, if you have or have had a gastrointestinal ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding, a severe blood disorder, severe liver impairment, severe kidney impairment, severe heart failure or severe high blood pressure, if you have or have had bronchial asthma, if you have had asthma, hives or an allergic reaction caused by aspirin or another anti-inflammatory painkiller, if you have pain before or after coronary artery bypass surgery, if you are in the last three months of pregnancy, if you are breastfeeding, or if you are receiving high-dose methotrexate as cancer treatment. Before taking this medicine, consult a doctor or pharmacist if you have or have had a blood disorder, if you tend to bleed, if you have or have had cirrhosis or liver impairment or kidney impairment, if you have heart failure, heart disease or high blood pressure, if you have had a hypersensitivity reaction, if you have systemic lupus erythematosus or mixed connective tissue disease, ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, if you are elderly or a child, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you take low-dose aspirin to prevent a heart attack or stroke, or if you are hypersensitive or have had an allergic reaction to Yellow No. 5. Do not take more than the recommended dose. When taking it for a cold, take it for no more than five days as a rule. Without instructions from a doctor or pharmacist, do not take it for pain for more than ten days (adults) or five days (children), or for fever for more than three days.

Do not use with

Do not take this medicine together with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers. Before taking it, consult a doctor or pharmacist if you are taking low-dose aspirin, ACE inhibitors, lithium, furosemide or thiazide diuretics, low-dose methotrexate, coumarin anticoagulants (such as warfarin), or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

Possible side effects

Stop taking this medicine immediately and consult a doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of the following: signs of shock (difficulty breathing, a fall in blood pressure and the like); blood disorders such as a fall in haematocrit or haemoglobin, anaemia, aplastic anaemia, haemolytic anaemia, agranulocytosis, a fall in granulocytes, white blood cells or platelets, reduced platelet function, or a rise in eosinophils; peptic or gastrointestinal ulcer, stomach bleeding, perforation, ulcerative colitis, blood in the stool, gastritis, pancreatitis, vomiting blood, Crohn’s disease, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, upper abdominal pain, thirst, mouth inflammation, abdominal bloating, mouth ulcers, constipation or black stools; Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), angioedema, blistering dermatitis, erythema multiforme, maculopapular rash, reddening of the skin, blisters, rash, exfoliative dermatitis or acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis; hepatitis, jaundice, abnormal liver function such as raised GOT, GPT or ALP, or liver impairment; a hypersensitivity or anaphylactic reaction, an asthma attack, hives, eczema, purple spots, rash or itching; asthma, narrowing of the airways, difficulty breathing or wheezing; visual disturbance such as blind spots, hearing loss, ringing in the ears or an altered sense of taste; dizziness, drowsiness, depression, headache, a cerebrovascular event or nervousness; aseptic meningitis or meningitis (severe headache, nausea, vomiting, sleeplessness, a stiff neck, fever or reduced consciousness); a fall or rise in blood pressure, palpitations, heart failure, heart attack or angina; acute kidney failure, reduced urine output, blood or protein in the urine, raised BUN or blood creatinine, high potassium, interstitial nephritis, nephrotic syndrome or renal papillary necrosis; swelling of the whole body with shortness of breath or tiredness, swelling around the eyes, facial swelling, general lethargy, fever, nosebleed, swelling or swelling of the hands and feet.
